The wait is nearly over! After a prolonged period, in December 2021, the Abbeyfield Society finally released proceeds from the sale of Shandford the previous year. The Shandford Trustees are now able to embark on an urgent audit of the likely gaps in care that will face local older people of limited means in 2022 and beyond.
This work will include consulting statutory and other relevant charitable organisations in our area to identify the most appropriate and cost-effective use of these funds. Further details will be announced without delay, as soon as this study has been completed. There is, at last, light at the end of the tunnel!
ABOUT US DECEMBER 2020
The Abbeyfield Society is applying funds from the sale of Abbeyfield Shandford, its former care home in Budleigh Salterton, to a new charity, The Shandford Trust. Its main purpose will be to support those older people in need who live within the area of Budleigh Salterton and the villages of East Budleigh, Otterton, Colaton Raleigh and Bicton. The Trust will be managed by a board of trustees drawn from the local community and one from the Abbeyfield Society.
As soon as funds from the site sale are available, a fully structured website will be launched and publicised locally. This will give further details of the background and purposes of the Trust, together with information on the criteria for qualifying for support, and when and how to apply.
